More than anything else, it is Alexandra Marisa Wilcke<\/strong>\u2019s substantial work in the \u201cinvisible\u201d world of voice dubbing film that has made her a star in the German acting world. But though \u201cinvisible\u201d in the big movies she lends her voice to, Wilcke keeps her audience close by regularly acting and singing in film and on stage, as well as directing and producing for theater and television and recording music..<\/p>\n

German film audiences recognize her voice – lent to actors in foreign films \u2013\u00a0from a wide range of genres, including Casino Royal, The Lord of the Rings, Serial (Bad) Weddings, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Flight, The Shack, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Welcome to the Sticks, 7 Days in Entebbe; as well as such hit TV shows as Person of Interest, Blue Bloods, Suits and many more.<\/p>\n

Children especially know and love her singing in popular movies like Coco, Epic, Shrek the Third and the Disney hits Pocahontas and The Lion King \u2013 her breakthrough roles as a singer. In 1999, her passion for song led to the lead role of Lilli in the hit stage musical Tabaluga & Lilli by German rock star Peter Maffay \u2013\u00a0a role she remained true to for two years at the Teatro Centro in Oberhausen alongside a variety of film and TV commitments, including a starring role in the ZDF television series Rotlicht. As an artist, she has always sought and received inspiration from live performing, and so returns again and again to live music and theater.<\/p>\n

Most recently, she slipped into the role of state prosecution attorney Nelson in Ferdinand von Schirach\u2019s play Terror at the Alte Theater in Stuttgart, as well as the role of Mrs. Mueller in Frau Mueller muss weg. Her love of spiritual music and writing inspired her to produce a series of live dramatic readings of the poetry of Mascha Kal\u00e9ko and the music of Hildegard of Bingen, spiritual artists who are particularly dear to her heart. In 2009, after directing and producing a documentary about a volunteer medical team in the jungles of Mexico, she founded her own music label, Marisa Music, under which she has produced and released several music videos, music CDs and audio books. Through her travels and singing performances in India, Europe, Australia and America, she has come to know and appreciate a wide range of international artists, with whom she has collaborated of a series of projects. She was particularly inspired by her collaborations and resulting friendships with the Australian award-winning indie filmmaker Paul Cox and the singer\/writer Prafulla Kar, winner of the Indian Padma Shri Award, and his family.<\/p>\n

In 2019, the Indian Ambassador to Germany honored her with a letter of appreciation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In honor of Gandhi\u2019s 150th birthday, her band and she interpreted his favorite song Vaishnava Jana To on Indian national television, which was then edited into a video clip involving artists from over 40 countries worldwide. I remember traveling to visit friends near Mainz when the train stopped in Bingen, and I thought: Bingen? Wasn\u2019t there a woman of that name? A woman\u00a0in the Middle Ages revered as a prophet \u2013\u00a0Hildegard of Bingen? That weekend, I got my friends to take me back there and visit some of the places nearby where she had lived.<\/p>\n

She fascinated me, and her music came to fascinate me even more. Singing her compositions transports me to another world. Under the friendly guidance of the cantor Sister Lydia Stritzel of the Abbey of St. Hildegard, I learned the basics of neumes, the notation used in the Middle Ages and in which Hildegard wrote her songs.
\nFor over two years I studied those songs, and the more I learned, the more the desire grew in me to transform my knowledge into some kind of beautiful form to share it with others. My mentor Paul Cox had been pushing me for some time: Don\u2019t wait for others to do something with you, do it yourself. Take the first step and the other steps will follow. Okaaaaay.<\/p>\n

And so I produced \u2013 under somewhat adventurous circumstances \u2013 my first CD: O Aeterne Deus \u2013 and the small recording label Marisa Music was born. Immediately, I created the live series of the same name, featuring the songs of Saint Hildegard and the mystic writings of Meister Eckhart as well as other spiritual greats of Germany.<\/p>\n

I have performed this music in Cologne Cathedral with its incredible acoustics and in other wonderful churches large and small in Germany, in the United States, Mexico, India, Holland, Austria, Italy, Sweden and other countries. These projects have brought me together with many wonderful artists and projects. Music is a great gift, a language that communicates directly from person to person and knows no barriers. It\u2019s a language that is felt as well as heard \u2013\u00a0and felt not only by the listener, but also by the singer, creating a wordless dialogue between them. Paul always said, An artist creates something beautiful that nourishes people and brings them back into contact with themselves. For myself, I would add: No matter what form it takes: a thought, a game, an image or a song. When I am touched in my soul, I feel transformed. If I can touch someone\u2019s soul with something beautiful, that\u2019s what makes me happy. What fascinates me about life is watching something no one had anticipated before suddenly take shape from many small, inconspicuous experiences and observations, as from a mosaic of stones. This I love \u2013 for this, I am grateful.<\/p>\n

It was a special visit to a children\u2019s hospital in Essen, performing as the Ice Prinzess Lilli, which I was doing on stage in Oberhausen at the time, that inspired me to get involved in volunteer work. Our cast sang and danced with the patients of the children’s cancer ward, and those kids impressed me. Their happiness in seeing and hearing us, doing something with us, despite their difficult circumstances, touched me deeply. Later, they sent us pictures they had painted of our visit and I was surprised at the love they saw us with. There were not only happy moments. One girl had to be taken to intensive care \u2013\u00a0she had so much hoped to see Lilli and the dragon Tabaluga, but her weakened immune system kept her away from the show. My colleague and I were led into a quarantined area wearing overshoes and masks, where we communicated with her through a window as she underwent chemo. Her happiness was a joy to see, and we invited her to visit us when she was discharged. She never came. Today my thoughts go back to her often and I wonder, somewhat apprehensively, what became of her..<\/p>\n

\nBal Ashram is a school project in India in which boys and girls from impoverished backgrounds receive 12 years of educational training. The curriculum ranges from the sciences and environmental protection to dance and self-defense for both sexes
\nThe school gets its energy from solar cells, supplies the children with milk from its own dairy production and teaches them sustainable agricultural techniques. It impressed me greatly, and so I donate to the school part of the income from my Indian CD Productions \u2013\u00a0which are available in the Marisa Music Store<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=“NAMU – Art For Life“ tab_id=“1553440107969-f0eee8e7-8295″][vc_column_text]\"\"For over 12 years now I have supported the volunteer association NAMU – Art for Life Network<\/strong>. The concept is for professional and amateur actors to work together to entertain children and their families in hospitals and hospices. The work is wide-ranging: from simple handicrafts to complex, self-authored children’s musicals performed in imaginative, colorful costumes in hospital hallways or playrooms. The association\u2019s patron is Dr. Patch Adams, whose ideas and life were filmed in 1998 with Robin Williams. Dr. Adams actively supports our work whenever his worldwide activities allow. On the recently released CD Aponis Verwandlung, for example, he sings (in German!) the part of the sunflower visited by a small caterpillar, who asks for advice. In this children’s musical I acted and sang the beautiful role of the lotus flower.
